About our Counselors

Hi! My name is Sofia Daly. I am a proud, mom, bilingual, Mexican-American school counselor. I grew up in Little Village where my love of people and empathy for human hardship made me aware that education and mental health are social justice issues. For these reasons, I became a History teacher to English Language Learners and then a school counselor. I have started my 15th year as an educator this year. I love to spend time with my family, including playing driver for my 9 and 12 year old's to their activities, practice and coach sports with them and preparing and distributing meals with them for Housing Forward. We also love going to the National Parks and immersing ourselves in nature. For my “me time” I love to wake up to cycling on my Peloton to some good music to pump me up for the day, and going to bed watching a sitcom so I can finish the day laughing.

I love people and getting to know them. Music, laughter, sports and doing a good deed feeds my soul. Some of my heroes are Martin Luther King Jr., Frida Kahlo, Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Abraham Lincoln.

I look forward to a great partnership with you this year.

Please reach out to me if I can help in any way.

Sofia Daly, LPC

Hello!

My name is Myra Rodriguez. I was born in Chicago, but raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico until my early elementary school years. My first language was Spanish and I couldn't be more proud to call myself a bilingual and bicultural LATINA. Having Mexican and Puertorican roots instilled in me at a young age has molded me into the person I am today. I am a mom to a kindhearted, talented and handsome 17 year-old who will be graduating high school next year. I am also a dog mom to a 9 year-old chocolate lab who brings us lots of joy every day.

This would have been my 17th year as a classroom teacher, but my love for students and recognizing the emotional and mental health needs that students were facing, is what brought me to where I a today. I am currently fulfilling my practicum and soon internship hours, and I couldn’t be more thrilled! I am eager to work closely with all students and truly enjoy helping them sort through the emotions and challenges they face on a daily basis. I am grateful to form part of the counseling team at Thorp and look forward to making my contribution as a positive role model in our school and the community.

Some of the things I enjoy are; spending time with my family and friends, traveling, cooking, dancing, doing "fun" runs around our beautiful city and cuddling with my favorite canine, Cocoa.

I am confident that my practicum and internship experience with the students, parents and school community of Thorp, will be a rewarding one!
