Dear Thorp Families:
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. I appreciate your patience and understanding regarding the incident email I sent out on Friday. Some parents expressed concerns because specifics were not relayed and because it came at the end of the day. Please note, that our priority is to ensure the safety of our students and staff. In the event of any potential threat or emergency, we immediately put safety measures into place with CPS Safety and Security as well as Chicago emergency services (CPD, CFD) if necessary. Communication with parents is authorized by CPS Safety and Security and shared by the school administration as soon as possible. We are nearing the end of the first quarter. Please take time to check your child’s grades on Aspen. It is a good practice to sit with your child on Fridays to review their grades.
All students must be off the West Field by 2:40 so that soccer and cross-country practices can take place. Several of our students have been hanging around after school in this area. Please remind your students that they can’t use this space after school. We do not have the staff to supervise students after school hours. Friends of Thorp:
Save the date for the Fall Fest on October 19th, 11:30am-2pm. We are looking for families to decorate their cars for trunk or treat (there will be prizes for best theme!) You can sign up here.
If you are willing to contribute nut-free bags of candy for the trunk-or-treat, donations can be dropped off at the Austin entrance during school hours. Thank you for your help!
