Week 5 Family Letter

Thorp Families: 

 

We are halfway through the first quarter. Progress reports were sent home yesterday. Next Friday, we will send out beginning of the year testing information for your children who took the Star (Grades 3-8) and i-Ready (Kindergarten through Grade 2) assessments. 

 

First Grade Assembly

Thank you so much to the first grade team and students for an amazing assembly. The classrooms will have viewings on Monday, but you can watch it here

From the Counselors

Personal Health and Safety Classes are delivered to K-4 grade classes on the topics of healthy habits, interpersonal relationships, gender identification and physical and emotional safety (including from abuse and bullying). These lesson have been developed by the CPS to meet all National and State Standards to meet age appropriate needs.  

While we encourage all of our families to participate in this state requirement, there is an option to opt out of one or more lessons. Please complete the opt out form below. One per student. These lessons will begin in November.

Sexual Health Education classes are delivered to 5-8 grade classes in health and discuss healthy relationship, communication skills, gender identity, human reproduction, and sexual health. 

Again, these lessons are a state requirement, but if any family is feels compelled to opt out of one or more lessons, they must submit this in writing. Please use the form below. These lessons will take place in the 3rd quarter.

Ms. Murray and Ms. Daly will offer a Parent University presentation to discuss the topics address in these two curriculum and to answer any questions you may have on Thursday, October 10th from 7-8pm via Google Meets using the code thorpparent

FRIENDS OF THORP

A huge THANK YOU to everyone for participating in the Read-A-Thon. We loved seeing your dedication to reading, and to this Thorp community! Winners will be announced next week and prizes will be delivered on 10/4.

 

Campus Fall Clean up will take place on October 5th at 10am. If you'd like to pitch in, please sign up here. Bring any gardening tools and gloves you may have. Snacks and Refreshments will be provided. 

Kids can help too or enjoy time at the PTA’s Open Gym.

 

Save the date for the Fall Fest on October 19th, 11:30am-2pm. We are looking for families to decorate their cars for trunk or treat (there will be prizes for best theme!) You can sign up here.  

If you are willing to contribute nut-free bags of candy for the trunk-or-treat, donations can be dropped off at the Austin entrance during school hours. Thank you for your help!
