Dear Parents,

Happy First Week of School!

We were so excited to see all of the familiar faces back in the building, as well as welcome new ones.

The Friday Letter will  highlight the different grade bands each week. This week we have the Office Friday Letter to start off the new school year.

Please see the Events Calendar for all of our events this year. Our Open House dates are next week: Wednesday, August 30th from 6-7 will be for grades 1-4. Thursday, August 31st from 6-7 will be grades 5-8. Come meet all of our wonderful staff and see what to expect for the rest of the school year.

We are also hosting our PTA Parent University meetings for topics you are interested in. Please see all of the past ones linked here. On Thursday, September 14th, our counseling staff will present “Navigating the High School Selection Process” (a must see for all 7th and 8th grade families). It will be a virtual Google Meeting under the code parentuniversity. (You will need to log on as your child in order to attend the meeting.) On Wednesday, September 20th, please join us in person for a session on Giving and Receiving Feedback at School and at Home by Gina Fong of Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management. We have had Ms. Fong with us this year - and you will definitely want to attend from 6:00-7:00+PM in the library.

Please do not block the exits on the west playground at the end of the day.  Teachers are finding it difficult to exit with their classes and this is slowing down the dismissal process.  Thank you for your cooperation!

Please send in completed forms that are in your child's Student Health & Schools Booklet. The packet came home on the first day of school for 1st-8th grade students. The first homerooms in grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 to get all of the forms in will get an extra recess!

This year, we are trying to keep our newsletters much shorter. Friends of Thorp, PTA, BAC, and Sports will be doing their own communication. If you want to unsubscribe from any of those groups, feel free to do so in the link provided.
