Hello! My name is Myra Rodriguez and I am super excited to join the Thorp family this year. I have been teaching for 16 years and most of my experience has been in grades K-2. My passion for teaching came in my mid 20’s as I thought about my interests and how I could impact the world. I obtained my Education degree from Northeastern University and soon after enrolled in a Master’s Program at National Louis University where I received a degree in Curriculum and the Arts. Later I became more aware of the need for bilingual special education teachers and decided to get my LBS1 endorsement. I then taught special education for primary grades at my previous school and loved it!
As we all know, the pandemic changed the world and the need for social emotional learning in our schools was eminent. I then decided that I wanted to help our young children and their families cope with trauma related issues and help educate our most vulnerable populations.
I am currently enrolled in a Masters in Counseling program at NLU to fulfill my goal of becoming a school counselor in the Spring of 2024. I am a mother to a handsome 16 year old young man who has been a true blessing to raise and brings the best out in me always! I am also a mom to a four legged chocolate Labrador who we absolutely love and treat as part of the family of course! Some of the things that I enjoy doing are spending quality time with family and friends while enjoying a savory meal, listening to music, dancing, running, traveling and being around nature. I am looking forward to meeting my new colleagues, students and their families. Let’s welcome a fantastic new school year together!
