– Next PPLC meeting will be Dec. 11 at 2:45 pm.

Principal Evaluation Committee

  • Had its first meeting. Harmon plans to pass out survey from last year to see if it can be reused. If changes needed, will need to go for legal review.
  • Requested a description of the assistant principal role and a “larger vision” for DL instruction. Toledo said DL initiative is discussed on the school’s website. He discussed what the role of assistant principal is and said would provide a written version of what he said to the committee. Assistant principal: co-principal. The committee may want to hear directly from assistant principals.
  • Future committee meetings are Dec 5 at 5:30 pm and Jan 10 at 5:30 pm.

Bilingual Advisory Committee

  • Last meeting focused on recruitment. This is the second year for the BAC.
  • It has goals of increasing participation among parents with students in the ESL program, and fostering a love of the student’s native languages. There are 23 language groups at Thorp.
  • Next meeting will be Dec. 14 at 1:15 pm in the lunchroom.

Wellness Committee

  • Two town halls were held. Great attendance at the high school selection town hall.
  • About 30 people attended the sex health curriculum town hall.
  • Jen Jones has been working on the Thorp Well Nest.
  • Will have a meeting on December 3 to put together a survey to help frame the homework conversation which will be the subject of a February town hall.

  • Community Tavern fundraiser: $500.
  • Winterfest will be on Saturday Dec. 8, starting at 10:30 am.

  • All funds go teacher requests.

7th/8th Grade

  • Moving movie night to January.
  • Planning on a Culver’s dine-in fundraiser (Dec. 5), Lou Malnatti’s frozen pizza, Culver’s ice cream in cafeteria fundraiser, Perkolator fundraiser on Dec. 20th.

Principal’s Report

  • School is evaluating student performance as a whole every five weeks. Students earning a D or F dropped from 105 (Wk 5) to 71 (Wk 10).
  • November 3 there was an executive functioning seminar, with 25 families attending.
  • Discussed SQRP. We’re in the top 10% of the country. A lot of the growth came from the diverse learners. 7th and 4th grade had the highest gains.
  • Discussed the My School/My Voice survey. Looks like we’re “moderately organized.”
  • Discussed 5 Essentials. There seems to be a disconnect between survey results and school environment as perceived. Teacher participation was 56.9%, which was low compared to other schools. PPLC will be looking at the 5 Essentials more closely.
  • Discussed budget. Aftercare program was moved into internal accounts.
  • Emergency Repairs:
    • Sewer collapse cost $35,000 ($8,000 from the schools account).
    • Also a $35,000 emergency repair for the HVAC controls.

Old Business

  • Pat, lunch manager, gets a more accurate lunch menu. Will try to get that info out to parents.

Public Participation

  • Is it possible to get student feedback on the 5 Essentials more frequently than once a year?
  • Dec. 14, 5-7 pm, 7th/8th grade dance

Next meeting: December 12 at 7 am.

Adjourn 7:35 pm. Dean motioned, Paulraj seconded.
