Our first semester Awards Assembly will be held on Thursday, February 26th. The K-5 Assembly will be at 8:30 a.m. and the 6-8 Assembly will occur at approximately 1:00 p.m. Parents, this is going to be a student celebration filled with music and fun. Students will not be receiving certificates, but they will receive Thorp Achievement Stickers for their agendas. Feel free to join us for the fun!
Class of 2015 – 8th Grade News
There will be a meeting for eighth grade parents on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Thorp School. Please make sure to attend this meeting, as important items will be discussed. The eighth grade students will be selling Carson’s Community Day books tomorrow from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Harlem and Irving Carson’s. Please stop by and support our students. These coupon books can be used at any Carson’s.
On Saturday, February 21st, Thorp will be hosting a Saturday Success Seminar from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Topics covered are organization and executive functioning, goal setting, parental support and student motivation. These seminars are designed for students who have lower than a C average in major subject areas for grades three through eight. Students who are required to attend received a note and a phone call. Since space is limited, if your child does not qualify but you would like to attend, please contact the main office. Saturday School for selected 8th grade students will begin on Saturday, February 28th from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
We will be distributing Pasta for Pennies Flyers in honor of Thorp graduate Emma Gomez. Pasta for Pennies is sponsored by Olive Garden Restaurants and collects money to fight Leukemia & Lymphoma. With their donation, students can bring this flyer from the LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) to their local Olive Garden for a Free Kids Meal.
Friends of Thorp:
Do you work or eat at a local business regularly? Know someone who could donate airline tickets, hotel stays, time shares or a vacation rental? Have season tickets to a team? You could donate some tickets. These are just a few of the items Friends of Thorp is looking for to make this year’s Taste of Thorp the best yet! PTA News and Information
Candy sale orders and payment envelopes are due to the office on Feb 23rd. The March PTA meeting will be March 4th at 1:30 p.m. Eighth grade students are still selling Carson’s Days coupon books for $5.00 each. We are in the final stretch! The class pizza party PTA membership race ends at the end of February, and we have a close race for first place! The PTA will give the 1st class with 100% membership, or with the highest PTA membership at the end of February, a pizza party in the Spring. Membership forms are available in the office, $5.00 Individual, $10.00 Family.
Local School Council – Our next Local School Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 2nd, at 6:15 p.m.
