Friday Letter: 1/25/2013

Dear Parents,

We will be having our Campus Park Meeting tomorrow, Saturday morning at 9:45 in our auditorium. This meeting will help us develop the vision for our future playgrounds as well as other projects such as outdoor classrooms, community gardens and more. All members of the Thorp community are welcome to attend and contribute to our plans.   I would like to personally thank Friends of Thorp as well as Urban Habitats for all of their hard work in this process.

There will not be any Saturday school this Saturday due to our Campus Park Meeting. Also, Friday, February 1st is a staff development day – there will be no school for students.

With the cold weather we are beginning to see a rash of tardy entries. In order to curtail this behavior, I have asked teachers to start giving out lunch detentions for students who are chronically late.  We will begin this policy next week. Kindergarten parents – please do not walk your child to their classroom. If you are late, please walk your child to the office.

I would like to thank our recess and afterschool volunteers for your help and support of Thorp.  Next week, you will be receiving an email confirmation allowing you to sign up for your scheduled time for each week.

The last day of the second quarter is January 31st. Please make sure to visit the CPS Parent Portal to check up on your child’s grades. There should be no surprises on report card distribution on February 6th. If you do not know how to check your child’s grade please search the Thorp website for “student grades.”

Parents, please remember to sign up for PTA membership if you have not done so already. We hope to have 100% participation in our PTA by all of the Thorp families, by the end of January. Please see the accompanying letter from the Thorp PTA.

Thank you,

Efren Toledo
