Friday Letter: 1/11/2013

Dear Parents,

I want to start by thanking all of you for your kind gifts and words during the holiday season. I hope that 2013 will be a year filled with health and blessings for all of the members of the Thorp family.

Here are some of the events happening in the next few weeks:

There is Saturday School this Saturday for our 7th and 8th graders who have signed up. Also, if your child received a Saturday School Detention – we expect to see him or her bright and early at 7:30A.M.

Winter MAP Testing begins Monday, January 14th. Students will be testing in Math this week and Reading next week. Results will be sent home with second quarter report cards on February 6th.  For more information on MAP testing please visit our website.

We will be having a PTA meeting at 8:30 in the Thorp Lunchroom and I will have a quick Q&A session before the meeting at 8:00AM. Parents if you have not joined our Thorp PTA you will be receiving a note asking you to join once more. Your participation in our PTA provides our teachers and students with materials and support while freeing up resources for our school. Your support is appreciated.

I want to remind everyone about our Thorp Campus Park plans. Friends of Thorp will be hosting a brainstorming session with Urban Habitats on Saturday, January 26 from 9:45 am – 12:00 pm at the school. Children, parents and the community are all welcome to attend. On Sunday the 27th we will present our initial plans along with preliminary sketches and models. Your input is very important. Please fill out the online survey at:  The children were given their own surveys to be collected on Monday. Please help them develop and draw their ideas.

Parent volunteers, Mrs. Dean has been calling to help coordinate your schedules. We are still in need of parents who may be able to help us after school, at the security desk. If you are interested in helping please come by the office to pick up a volunteer form.

Thank you for your support and interest in the education of your children.
