Friday Letter 11.15.13

November 15, 2013

Dear Parents,

We will have Saturday School this Saturday. Many of our teachers are using Edmodo in their classrooms in order to

teach our students 21st Century Skills, accelerate content, and keep them up to date with announcements and assignments.

In order to keep up with these announcements yourself, please visit the Thorp School website at

setting-up-edmodo-parent-accounts/ to set up a Parent Account. The Thorp Middle School Science Fair will be held on Friday,

November 22nd

the Fair.

The next Thorp PTA meeting will be on Thursday, November 21st. The PTA is also sponsoring the Reflections

Program. The Reflections Program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas

to explore their artistic talents by creating works of art for fun and recognition. Students in pre-school through grade 12

are encouraged to submit works of art in six categories: (1) Dance Choreography, (2) Film Production, (3) Literature, (4)

Musical Composition, (5) Photography, and (6) Visual Arts. Local winners in each category go on to compete at the district/

region and state levels. The due date for submissions is November 20th for more information. Also, please help Thorp to win up to $200,000 of STANLEY

Security installed products & services through the TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS grant. As we plan for our new

playground, we will need to upgrade our security system – you can help by voting daily at and

telling all of your Facebook and Twitter friends to do the same. I know we can win this one if we try!

Parents our NWEA Testing Session will begin the first week of December. We will have a Parent Information Night

about testing as well as what I call “Thorp Active Learning” immediately following our LSC Meeting on December 4th

LSC meeting will be held at 6:15 p.m. and our parent meeting should begin by 7:30 p.m. If you have never been to an LSC

meeting you might wish to attend. By the way if you are interested in applying for the parent vacancy on our LSC please visit
