Dear Parents,

 

There WILL BE Saturday school for 7th and 8th grade students this Saturday, November 15th. We will also have our workshops with the Center for Gifted from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Create a Lego Movie! (1st  – 3rd grade) and STEM: Robot Hoppers and Hovercrafts (3rd to 8th grade).  These are creative and thought provoking opportunities for our students. Please visit http://www.centerforgifted.org for registration and payment information (you can still sign up today before 5:00 p.m.).

 

Thorp Academy is working with Ageless Eyewear to provide FREE glasses for your child. The eye exam will take place at Thorp, selection of eyewear styles and even the fittings will take place at school. If you are interested in this free program, please email Mrs. Dean(ddean@cps.edu) ASAP.

 

The Science Fair Exposition will be on Wednesday, November 19th for grades 5-8. Parents may come to view 6th grade at 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., then 7th grade at 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and finally 8th grade from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  Science Fair will be held next Friday, November 21st. Parents will be able to view projects from 11:00 a.m. to noon.

 

Friends of Thorp is still looking for crafters for our Holiday Extravaganza! If you are crafty or know someone who is, then please join us on December 6 from 10am – 2pm for our tree sale and craft fair. Space is $25 per crafter or $35 if you need us to supply a table. Your child’s homeroom wants a Pizza Party! Help them by making their homeroom the first class with 100% PTA Membership.  Membership forms are available in the office, $5.00 Individual, $10.00 Family.

 

Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade artists, please help us design the January 2015 Collection sheet for Box Tops.  Submit a black & white drawing by Monday, November 24th to encourage Box Tops donations. The winning submission will be featured on January’s collection sheet along with the artist’s name! Your child can use the back of this sheet to create their submission.

 

Please mark your calendar – the Holiday Shop is coming! Volunteers will be needed for set up on Tuesday, November 25th and shopping will be held on December 2nd through the 4th.  The next LSC Meeting will be held on Monday, December 1st, at 6:15 p.m. Please make plans to come out and join us.

 

There is an an open casting call for Chicago students from the ages 8-13 who may be the next MasterChef Junior. If you are interested please visit the website: http://masterchefjuniorcasting.com/ If your child is a future culinary star email me and let me know that your child will be trying out. (I have been asked to provide a list).

There will be two live musical performances in the auditorium at both 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 20th. These are classical concerts for our students – (the students will be watching the performances).

 

On behalf of the class of 2015 thank you to the families who participated in our Chuck E. Cheese night. We would also like to thank the wonderful PTA parents that volunteered their time and to the fantastic families that dropped off the delicious dishes and desserts for the Staff Luncheon. A big thank you as well to all the parents and community members that volunteered their support on Report Card Pickup Day.
