October 31, 2014
At approximately 4:00 p.m. yesterday, a young male in a black car on Austin Ave approached one of our students and offered her money to come into his car. The student immediately ran back to school, and the car sped off. The office contacted the police and a report was made. (We currently do not have any more information.) As a precaution we will have extra staff around the building at dismissal. Parents please take this opportunity to review safety and travel arrangements with your child- whether that be who they walk home with; or what to do if you are not at the bus stop to meet them; or who to contact in an emergency if they cannot reach you. We do not want to cause undue alarm, but we do want our community to be vigilant. Your child’s safety is our top priority.
The new drop-off procedures in the morning have greatly eased our traffic concerns; but some parents are now double-parking on Warwick Ave. and walking their children into the building. This is creating unnecessary delays. We are aware of the construction in the area, but parking is not allowed on the streets adjacent to the building during school hours. Please note that cars illegally parked are subject to ticketing and towing.
Mark your calendars for the Vision and Hearing screening for November 5th, 6th and the 10th. Students in grades Kindergarten, First, Second, Third, Fifth, and Eighth grade, as well as students in RtI, MTSS, teacher referrals, or students new to CPS will receive the tests.
Saturday school for 7th and 8th graders starts this Saturday from 7:15 to 8:45. Our next LSC Meeting will be on Monday, November 3rd, at 6:15 p.m. Please make plans to come out and join us. There will be no school for students on Friday, November 7th (School Planning Day); Tuesday, November 11th (Veteran’s Day); and Wednesday, November 12th (Report Card pick-up).
