Friday Letter: 1.9.15

January 9, 2015

Dear Parents,

Happy 2015 and welcome back! I would like to start by thanking you for your patience. The inclement weather inconvenienced all of us, but I hope that we have seen the last of the snow days for the 2014-15 school year. The 7th and 8th grade Saturday School program has concluded. Saturday School programming will resume in the spring.

As the temperature drops, parking and traffic woes around Thorp School increase. Here are some guidelines that will make our mornings and afternoons a little smoother: Honking your car horn does not speed up traffic but it does startle children crossing the street; please be mindful of your surroundings. Do not block the street in order to watch your child enter the building; it is unnecessary and it causes honking. At drop-off and pick-up times, do not park in front of the school to enter the building. If you would like to walk your child to the doors please park at least a half-block away from the school entrances. Officer Vasquez has been instructed to start ticketing drivers who refuse to obey parking and traffic rules around the school. For the most, part traffic flows have been better than in past years, and I want to personally thank you for the improvement.

Parents, if your child is need of winter clothes, please let us know. Some parents have donated winter gear to the school for the use of students who may need it.

Our school winter play “Our Son, Pinocchio” sponsored by Windy City Music Theatre will be on Thursday, January 29th. Performance times are as follow: K-5 at 8:30 a.m. and grades 6-8 at 9:45 a.m. The general public performance will be on Saturday January 31st at 2:00 p.m. For more information please visit our website.
