Welcome to 2014! We are pleased and excited about what’s happening at Thorp School for this year. For this Saturday, January 11th, there will be Saturday School in session for 7th and 8th grade students.
After School Programs: Our after-school “non-academic” clubs will resume on January 15th. We still have openings in our 3rd grade Kitting Club and our 5th Grade Games Club. Please email Ms. McGoldrick (email@example.com) if you are interested. Parents, we are pleased to announce a new Musical Theatre program for Thorp School for students in grades 3rd to 8th. We will be working with Youth Company Chicago to put on a production of Peter Pan in the Spring. If you are interested please email Ms. McGoldrick as well, with the subject line: Theatre. We are hoping to offer this program free of charge if we have enough participants. For more information, please go to the Thorp website and search for “Peter Pan”.
The PTA meeting scheduled for next week has been postponed until January 30th. Please visit the Thorp PTA website for more information.
On Monday, January 13th, at 8:00 a.m. in the Auditorium, there will be a Parent Coffee. Please wait outside the auditorium until all students have been escorted to their classrooms. Coffee/tea/snacks will be donated by Portage Grounds and Fannie Schmoes Bakery. Thank you to Friends of Thorp for coordinating the event.
There will be no school on Monday, January 20th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Please save the date for the Friends of Thorp’s Annual Fundraiser “Taste of Thorp”. This event includes Dinner and Auctions (silent & live). When: Friday, February 28, 2014, 7:00 p.m. Where: Biagio! 4242 North Central Ave. Friends of Thorp is raising funds to improve Thorp’s campus with a much needed playground. Proceeds from Taste of Thorp will support this exciting endeavor! Friends of Thorp is also continuing their Bricks for Play fundraiser. With the colder weather, please know that your child can choose to come in for recess and warm up. As a general rule, we have outdoor recess for all students unless there is severe winter weather. Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately. If you know of anyone in need of winter clothing, please e-mail me or call the office. We often donate items during the holidays and often times these items could help benefit some of our own students.
We encourage all the children to go home once they are dismissed. Students have been told that if their parents are not outside during dismissal, they are to report to the office.
