I have some good news related to our campus park. Thorp was selected as a grant winner through the Kitchen Community Organization. We will be receiving a learning garden with planters and seating areas on the east side of the lot. Please visit http://thekitchencommunity.org for more information. To see our campus park plans please visit our website: https://oathorpacademy.org/thorp-campus-park-master-plan/ Please visit the site for updates about our playground, as well as minutes from our playground committee meetings. I would also like to personally thank for his help and support throughout this process. If you have a few minutes please send alderman, Tim Cullerton, a quick email thanking him for his support of Thorp. His help has been invaluable as we work towards making our playground a reality.
I would like to extend our thanks to the Thorp PTA and Friends of Thorp for the two wonderful activities we had last week. Our parents were able to demonstrate their impressive knowledge of things both trivial and important at the Pub Quiz on Sunday; also we were able to share ice cream and great conversations at our Ice Cream Social on Thursday. Thank you to the event organizers and to all who attended. It was great to see our parents, teachers and students outside of school hours!
The Thorp afterschool program will begin soon. Information was sent home on Friday regarding Saturday School for 7th and 8th graders; as well as academic support opportunities for select students in grades three to five. Please view the forms sent home on our website by searching for “after school programs”.
We have started distributing Individualized Learning Paths (ILP) for each student. We will hold an informational meeting for parents about using the ILP in early November, before MAP testing.
Finally, we would like to welcome Mr. Brendan Mullan, an astro-biologist and National Geographic Explorer to Thorp Academy. Mr. Mullan will be speaking to our students on Tuesday October 1st (Grades 1st to 4th 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and grades 5th to 8th at 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.). Parents please let us know if you would like to join us.
Parents we have had issues with our email distribution list. All letters will be sent out once the issue is resolved. Please register at at http://tinyurl.com/thorpmail with your email address.
Thank you for your support.
