Important Information For Thorp families and students

Please fill out the following form so that Mr. Toledo may write a letter that highlights your  accomplishments and merits as a student.  You need to have your personal statement completed before you request a recommendation. The deadline to submit a request for a principal recommendation from Mr. Toledo is March 11th.

General Information

The Magnet and Selective Enrollment Schools and Programs Admissions Policy allows principals of Selective Enrollment High Schools to fill up to five percent of the seats available in the incoming freshmen class through a centralized process. Through the Principal Discretion process, principals of Selective Enrollment High Schools select students through an application process that takes into consideration such areas as student awards and honors, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement written by the student.
APPLICATION PACKAGES MUST BE NO MORE THAN 15 PAGES.

SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED VIA EMAIL OR FAX.
 
To apply to a school for Principal Discretion, the school must have been listed on the student’s Selective Enrollment High Schools application, and the student must have taken the Selective Enrollment High Schools admissions exam.
STUDENTS CAN APPLY TO ONE SCHOOL ONLY. 
 
Application packages will be accepted from March 7, 2016, at 9 a.m. through March 18, 2016, at 5 p.m.  Please return to this page starting March 7th to download and print the Principal Discretion application.
APPLICATION PACKETS MUST BE NO MORE THAN 15 PAGES.
You can mail or hand-deliver your application package to the Office of Access and Enrollment, 42 W. Madison St., Garden Level, Chicago, Illinois 60602. If you mail your application package, you will receive an email confirmation. If you hand-deliver your application package, you will receive a paper receipt.
