The Thorp Difference

As you look through our website, talk with our parents, and ask teachers about our school, you will soon discover that there is something different about Thorp!

Thorp Scholastic Academy is ranked as one of the premier elementary schools in the state of Illinois. We offer an environment that is academically challenging and scholastically stimulating. However, more than just high test scores and rigorous academics, at Thorp we strive to educate and develop the whole child. Our  learning activities and enrichment experiences all demonstrate our commitment to educating the 21st century learner in the skills of CREATIVITY, COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION and CRITICAL THINKING.

At the core of our instructional practices is the belief that students demonstrate their learning by articulating and sharing their knowledge. Small group instruction and authentic learning opportunities provide our students a rich and dynamic environment where both their intellect and spirits are nourished in unique and profound ways.

In addition, our  integration of technology throughout the curriculum, learning partnerships with local area universities, after-school opportunities,  committed parents and community members, as well as an emphasis on sports and the fine arts will provide your child with an educational experience that is truly distinctive at O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy.

I can proudly state that the learning experiences your child will receive at our school will be engaging, challenging, and most of all unique. There is a difference at Thorp – and I’m glad that you are discovering it!

P.S.
If you are just visting our site- O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy is a magnet elementary school; all students must apply and are  accepted via a lottery based on applications completed by their parents. Thorp prides itself on providing the challenging learning opportunities for all students. For more information about CPS selective enrollment and magnet schools, please click HERE.
