This is a reminder that we will not have Saturday School this Saturday. However, Family Volunteer Day will be this Saturday, November 9th, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Thorp School is fortunate to be partnering with Huron Consulting once again! They have generously volunteered to help paint our school fence for the past two years, and I think we will actually finish the project this Saturday! Please use the Volunteerspot link to let us know if you are available to help at: http://vols.pt/FVtfH8.
There will be no school for students on Monday, November 11th in honor of Veterans Day and on Report Card Pickup Day Tuesday, November 12th. Parents, conference times will be from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with a break for teachers from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ageless Eye Care will have a table set up during Report Card Pickup Day. Please stop by and visit them if you are interested in receiving information regarding free and low-cost eye care.
Parents and students, thank you for using the east and west doors for entry in the morning; our front doors are used by our students with autism and your cooperation helps everyone start the day right. Parents, we have also had a number of close calls on the corner of Austin and Warwick. I know that morning drop-offs and afternoon dismissals can be hectic, but I would appreciate it if we utilize the services of our crossing guard on Grace. The stop-light makes this intersection much less dangerous. If your child walks to and from school, please remind them to cross Austin Avenue at the Grace corner. It may add a couple of minutes to their walk but our number one concern is their safety.
The next Thorp PTA meeting will be on Thursday, November 21st. Friends of Thorp Board Meeting will be on Thursday, November 14th at 6:30 pm. Also, please help Thorp try to win up to $200,000 of STANLEY Security installed products & services through the TOGETHER FOR SAFER SCHOOLS grant. As we plan for a new playground, we will need to upgrade our security system – you can help us by voting daily at http://stanleysaferschools.com and telling all of your Facebook and Twitter friends to do the same. I know we can win this one if we try! Finally, Thorp School has a parent vacancy on the Local School Council. If you are interested in applying for this vacancy, please visit our website.
