Friday Letter: 10.24.2014

October 24, 2014

Dear Parents,

“Thorp Wear” orders have been extended for the 1st Quarter until the end of October. If you have not had a chance to put in your orders, you can visit our new shopping site at this link: goo.gl/SpWcjk  We will have three more order dates during the school year.  Streamlining our ordering process will help ensure that parents receive their “Thorp Wear”  in a timely fashion. If you just need a gym shirt, please call the office.  We have a limited number of gym shirts at school that are available for immediate pick up.

Please note, that our students have new tags for morning breakfast.  These tags are important, because they will expedite the breakfast scanning process in the morning as students enter the cafeteria. Please make sure the tag is secured on your child’s backpack.

Fun backs are due back in the office today. Return the Fun Packs no later than Monday, October 27th to the office. Please do so immediately, or send an envelope with your child’s name, room number and the $10.00.

Mark your calendars for the Vision and Hearing screening for November 5th, 6th and the 10th. Students in grades Kindergarten, First, Second, Third, Fifth, and Eighth grade, as well as students in RtI, MTSS, teacher referrals, or students new to CPS will receive the tests.

Our regular after-school clubs will begin next week. Our After-School All-Stars program will focus on enrichment clubs, such as Rock Band, Lego Clubs, Dance, etc. as well as tutoring and homework clubs. Information for clubs and after-school programs were sent home yesterday. You may also check out the school website for programs and grade levels for both paid and free after-school programs.

October 31st is coming up, students are encouraged to wear fall colors (yellow, orange, black, etc.); but costumes are not permitted with the exception of kindergarten.

Parents please help us make our website better. I am setting up a Google survey, where you can share your suggestions for improvement online. The Thorp website is our primary method of communicating with you and I want to make sure that it is easy to navigate.  If you have experience in web development, design and customizing Word Press themes, and you are interested in helping us update our site – please send me an email.

Our next LSC Meeting will be on Monday, November 3rd, at 6:15 p.m. Please make plans to come out and join us.

The Friends of Thorp would like to invite you to their Fall Parent Coffee on Thursday, November 6th from 7:45 am – 9:30 am at Perkolator Coffee Shop (6032 W Irving Park Rd). Buy a cup of java and a treat and catch-up with friends or meet some new Thorp parents! We hope to see you there! The next Friends of Thorp meeting will be on November 13 at 6:30 pm.
