Friday Letter: 02.14.2014

Welcome to the Valentines/100th Day Edition of the Friday Letter!

February 14, 2014

Dear Parents,

Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy 100th Day of School!

We will have Saturday School and Saturday Detention tomorrow, February 15th. Parents, there is school this Monday.

Our First Semester Awards Assembly will be on February 20th. The Primary (K-2) Assembly will begin at 8:15, the Intermediate (3-5) Assembly will occur at 9:15 and the Upper (6-8) Assembly will occur at 10:15. All students receiving Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance and Achieving the MAP Goals will be recognized.

Please refrain from taking up the bus parking stops on Grace. Also, be mindful that the streets directly adjacent to the school are very crowded at both entrance and dismissal times. Parking one block away and walking your child may take less time than waiting for a spot to be clear on Grace, Meade or Warwick.

ISAT Testing will begin the week of March 3rd and will continue through March 14th. Just like last year, we are only taking one test per day to minimize interruptions to the instructional day. The ISAT schedule will be posted on the Thorp website.

The next scheduled PTA meeting will be on Thursday, February 20th at 6:00 p.m.

Have you purchased your tickets for the Friends of Thorp’s (FOT) Annual Fundraiser “Taste of Thorp”? Take advantage of early bird pricing. Ticket prices will go up to $40 on February 22, 2014. When: Friday, February 28, 2014, 7:00 p.m. Where: Biagio! 4242 North Central Ave. The Friends of Thorp parent organization is raising funds to improve Thorp’s campus with a much needed playground. Proceeds from Taste of Thorp will support this exciting endeavor! Also remember that FOT is continuing their Bricks for Play fundraiser. Please visit their website at http://www.friendsofthorp.org/ for additional information.

The PTA Spring Book Fair will be from March 14th through March 21st. The Book Fair Family Night will be on March 18th.

Please be aware that if your child has a cellphone, it must be turned off and stored in your child’s locker. Any child using a cellphone during the school day will receive a detention, and their cell phone will be stored in the office. Cellphones will only be returned to parents.

Thank you.
